Charcuterie is shar-KOO-tər-ee

The word charcuterie rolls off the tongue. Therefore, do not be intimidated by the somewhat difficult to say fancy sounding French word. In other words the actual product of a charcuterie is nothing to be intimidated by at all.

Above all, you can make a charcuterie board as disheveled and comfortable as you would like. Likewise you can be fancy, and make a professionally designed next level charcuterie board as well.

That is what I like the most about charcuterie boards. Because they are universal, easy and anyone can make them for almost any occasion.

What Does Charcuterie Actually Mean

Charcuterie, the branch of cooking devoted to prepared meats. The result of humans’ need to preserve meat before refrigeration was invented.

Charcuterie Board Meat

A charcuterie board is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. In addition if you want to become an expert Charcutier, there are a few things you always need.

Similarly meat is the star of the show and don’t skimp on cold cuts. The world is your oyster, but some common charcuterie meats are.

Prosciutto, Cured Sausage, Capicola, Salami, Pepperoni and jJmón Serrano.

Charcuterie Board Cheese

The perfect charcuterie board has pre-sliced and spreadable cheeses. As a result a few of our favorites are.

Gouda, Gruyère, Sharp Cheddar, Brie, Burrata, Camembert and Roquefort.

Bread and Crackers

Bread and crackers or something else to complement the meat and cheese is non-negotiable. Therefore you also need to include fruits, vegetables and other options for your vegetarian friends.

Common additions also include,

Grapes, Olives, Hummus, Jam or Jelly, Honey and Nuts.

Make sure your guests have beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages to complement their charcuterie plates.

Focus on three styles. Saison, Wild Ale and porter. As a result each can appeal to a range of palates. All three can play off the other characteristics of the food.

Such as Pinot Noir work well with charcuterie pairings. Similarly the acidity of Italian sparkling wines such as Proseccos and Lambruscos reset the palate. As can off-dry Rieslings.

Fizz is a common component for beverage selections. In addition your non-alcoholic choices are no exception. That doesn’t mean reaching for sodas because that sweetness can be overwhelming.

Sparkling water and mineral water, especially with a slice of lime or lemon, is a refreshing choice.
